Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - B-sides And Rarities Part I & Part II

Nicholas Edward Cave (born 22 September 1957) is an Australian singer, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional actor. Known for his baritone voice and for fronting the rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Cave's music is generally characterised by emotional intensity, a wide variety of influences and lyrical obsessions with death, religion, love and violence. Accompanied by his ubiquitous backing band the Bad Seeds, Cave's style is inimitable as it ranges across a spectrum that includes noisy, clattering, but extremely musical rock, equal parts mutant rockabilly, garage, indie, post-punk, and cabaret, as well as striking romantic balladry and broken blues. Warren Ellis (born 14 February 1965) is an Australian musician and composer. He is a member of the rock groups Dirty Three and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. He also performed with the band Grinderman until its disbandment in 2013. He has also composed film scores with long-time collaborator and band-mate Nick Cave. Ellis plays the violin, piano, accordion, bouzouki, guitar, flute, mandolin, tenor guitar, and viola. He has been a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds since 1994. In 1993, Ellis was invited to play with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as part of a small string ensemble for several songs on Let Love In (released 1994). He would soon join the band as a full-time member, initially emphasizing violin but gradually adding many other instruments. Ellis eventually co-wrote many of the band's songs and became a pivotal collaborator with singer Nick Cave in film scores and other projects. Ellis was also a member of Grinderman, a side-group from the Bad Seeds, who have released two albums and a remix album. "B-Sides & Rarities" is a compilation-album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, released in March 2005. It features over 20 years of the band's B-sides and previously unreleased tracks, including tracks performed with Shane MacGowan and acoustic versions of "Deanna" and "The Mercy Seat". It is also the first recording to include all members of The Bad Seeds, past and present: Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Blixa Bargeld, Thomas Wydler, Martyn P. Casey, Conway Savage, Jim Sclavunos, Warren Ellis, Barry Adamson, Kid Congo Powers, James Johnston, Roland Wolf and Hugo Race. Back in 2005, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds released "B-Sides & Rarities", a collection that's exactly as its title describes. Now, 16 years later, the group has another volume of obscurities on the way. Out on Oct. 22, "B-Sides & Rarities Part II" was compiled by Cave and Warren Ellis, and contains 27 rare and unreleased tracks from 2006-2020, including the first recordings of "Skeleton Tree," "Girl In Amber" and "Bright Horses." It will be released on double vinyl, double CD, deluxe double CD and all digital platforms. As for the first "B-Sides & Rarities", this will be the first time it's out on vinyl. In total, the 27-song "B-Sides & Rarities Part II" boasts 19 unreleased tracks, compiled by Cave and Bad Seeds member Warren Ellis, including the first recordings of album cuts like "Skeleton Tree," "Girl in Amber," and "Bright Horses," the studio version of the quarantine-penned "Euthanasia," Cave's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Avalanche," an official version of the spoken-word piece "Steve McQueen," an orchestral take on "Push the Sky Away," and more. "I always liked the original "B-Sides & Rarities" more than any of our other albums. It's the only one I'd listen to willingly. It seems more relaxed, even a bit nonsensical in places, but with some beautiful songs throughout. There is something, too, about the smallness of certain songs that is closer to their original spirit," Cave said in a statement. ""B-Sides & Rarities Part II" continues this strange and beautiful collection of lost songs from the Bad Seeds. I love the final side of the last disc because it reveals the small and fragile beginnings of some of my favorite Bad Seeds songs. 'Waiting for You' complete with bizarre 'canning factory' rhythm track, a gorgeous 'Life Per Se' deemed too sad for "Skeleton Tree", and 'Earthlings' that some consider the finest track of the "Ghosteen" sessions."
